Nursery Manager

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management:

✓ Lead by example in delivering and embedding the company ethos and culture.

✓ Provide motivating leadership, mentorship, and regular supervision to a team of dedicated practitioners, fostering a positive, collaborative, and supportive ‘family’ culture.

✓ Support all staff and engage in good teamwork, ensuring staff are fulfilling their roles and duties daily.

✓ Oversee, manage, and negotiate staff holidays, and manage staff cover to maintain ratios during opening hours.

✓ Plan and run efficient daily routines to ensure the smooth, safe running of the nursery day.

✓ Contribute to and attend supervisions and staff appraisals, promoting a culture of self-evaluation and reflective practice.

Strategic & Administrative:

✓ Report to the Senior Management Team (SMT), effectively managing the nursery to maintain a high-quality provision and making strategic plans for its future.

✓ Manage the administration of nursery sessions and Early Years funding claims.

✓ Work with the SMT, Admin Lead, and Marketing to promote the nursery, provide tours to prospective families, and contribute to the Nursery Newsletter.

✓ Liaise with the SMT regarding the ordering of all equipment and resources, and ensure regular audits are carried out.

✓ Attend, plan, and run team meetings, writing and distributing minutes.

✓ Plan and manage the Nursery’s Holiday Club with the support of the Deputy Manager.

EYFS, Curriculum & Quality:

✓ Collaborate with the SMT to draw up long-term, medium-term, and sessional curriculum plans that meet the requirements of the EYFS.

✓ Oversee high standards of care, planning, and delivery of the curriculum, ensuring it is dynamic, creative, and innovative.

✓ Take responsibility for the standards of teaching and learning, and the implementation of high-quality continuous provision both indoors and outdoors.

✓ Be responsible for implementing the system of observation, assessment, and record-keeping to effectively track children’s progress and achievements.

✓ Ensure the weekly planning of activities and events is shared on a rota basis by all staff.

Ofsted & Compliance:

✓ Ensure the setting operates in full compliance with the EYFS Framework, Ofsted requirements, and all company policies and procedures.

✓ Maintain an action plan to achieve and maintain a minimum 'Good' Ofsted rating.

✓ Ensure all records are properly maintained and updated (e.g., daily registers, accident/incident records, fire drills).

✓ Liaise with the local authority, Ofsted, and other professionals as necessary, and promptly implement any recommendations from regulatory inspections.

Safeguarding and SEND:

✓Fulfill the role of a trained Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), reporting to the Company DSL.

✓ Ensure the welfare and safety of children is always paramount, and that any child protection concerns are acted upon appropriately and immediately.

✓ Oversee the role and responsibilities of the Nursery SENCo.

✓ Ensure the safe recruitment of staff in line with the safer recruitment policy.

✓ Liaise with external agencies and parents/carers to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Partnership with Parents:

✓ Build and maintain strong, communicative, and trusting relationships with parents and carers.

✓ Liaise with parents about their children’s needs, interests, and progress through regular reports, meetings, and communications, including organising parent events.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Qualities:

✓ Passionate about the ethos of Busy Bodies Childcare Ltd.

✓ Presentable, professional, and a strong role model.

✓ Shows initiative, is self-motivated, and has a positive 'can do' attitude.

✓Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a team.

✓ Excellent ability to engage and support parents and families.

✓ Manages and organises time effectively, with the ability to work under pressure.

✓ Reliable, prepared to work flexibly, and maintains confidentiality at all times.

✓ Ability to use an online journaling system and work both in a team and independently.

Essential Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:

✓ Minimum of a full and relevant Level 3 childcare qualification.

✓ Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role within an early years setting.

✓ Deep knowledge and understanding of the EYFS, Ofsted expectations, and Child Development Stages.

✓ Experience of the observation, assessment, and planning cycle.

✓ Experience of working in partnership with parents and as a Key Person.

✓ Experience of working with children with SEND and implementing Safeguarding Policy and Procedure.

✓ Experience of working with external agencies.

Desirable:

✓ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (or working towards).

✓ Experience with budget management, business administration, and using IT systems to support working practices.

✓ Diplomatic, confident, and enjoys responsibility.

✓ Current Paediatric First Aid certificate (or willingness to train).
